How to Make a Refreshing and Easy Tequila Lime Spritzer

Easy tequila lime spritzer for summer sitting on wood tray

Baby, it’s really freaking hot outside…

Summer days are here in North Carolina and boy, do I know it. The heat index is off the charts, not to mention the humidity! Our family has been spending a whole lot of time indoors and in close proximity. While I love my little crazies, sometimes when that 7:30 PM bedtime hits I realize I haven’t drank a sip of water all day. I haven’t peed or showered. The house is a DISASTER and… Never mind. Lets just pour a drink, cause we do it again in 6 hours. (I LOVE being a mom but IYKYK).

Why I love a good cocktail:

I am always searching for a super simple drink idea to serve at a summer cookout or when I have a group of girlfriends coming over to my home. Wine is always a good idea, but I love the vibe of a mixed cocktail. It really makes it seem like you went “the extra mile”. Plus, the appearance can really elevate your table spread. I recently brought this cocktail to my coworkers Bachelor viewing party and it was a huge hit. Plus tequila and bachelor drinking games always go hand in hand (HA)…. Just make sure you have a designated driver on call.

Don’t be intimidated… This is easy.

If you’re like me, you might find mixology to be a bit intimidating but trust me when I tell you these are fool-proof! You can easily mix up a pitcher for a large group or in small batches for a refreshing night-cap. My husband and I love sipping these on our front porch after kiddos are in bed while we chat about our day.

Lets Start Making this Easy and Refreshing Tequila Lime Spritzer!

Step 1: Start with 2 oz of your favorite tequila dumped into a cocktail shaker with a bunch of ice. As the worlds least bougie beverage drinker, I have no idea what a good tequila is so I asked my husband to get whatever sounded good from the ABC store. He brought home this Teremana small batch tequila which, according to him, is Dwayne ”The Rock” Johnson’s tequila line so it has to be good.

Step 2: Add 2 oz of lime juice to your shaker bottle. If you’re a real go-getter you can squeeze some limes but I usually just use my bottled lime juice from the fridge. Next, add in about 1 oz of agave. This isn’t an exact science. It just depends on if you like it to be more sweet or tangy. I personally love the refreshing taste of the lime so I tend to take it easy on the agave. Shake the tequila, lime and agave mixture until its super cold.

Step 3: Prep your glass before pouring the cocktail. This may sound extremely obvious. However, if you suffer from mom brain like me, you may have poured the cocktail into a glass 2-3 times in a row and THEN realized you forgot to add ice and your fancy rim coating. Wet the rim of your cocktail glass/mason jar or whatever you’re using with a lime wedge. Then, dip the rim in Tajin, sugar or salt. I used tajin because it goes great with the lime spritzer flavor. Fill the glass 3/4 full of crushed ice and then pour the shaker mixture over the crushed ice.

Step 4: Finish off your tequila lime spritzer with a decent splash of club soda to taste. This is what takes the drink to the next level. The club soda makes it fizzy and extra refreshing while toning down the super tangy lime flavor and smoothing it all out. I like to add a few lime twists for garnish plus some mint or rosemary sprigs to really elevate the look. Your guests will think you’re fancy… But in reality its stupid easy and delicious.

How to make this drink for a crowd:

If you want to make this drink for a group and not be mixing drinks all night, I recommend prepping the drink beforehand like this:

  1. Combine the tequila, agave, and lime juice in a pitcher and chill in the fridge.
  2. When guests arrive, fill plastic cups with ice and a good splash of club soda
  3. Top the glasses off with the mixture from step 1 + any garnishes you want!

I hope you enjoy this refreshing and easy tequila lime spritzer!
